Background

This is a blog I have created, to document the progress of the restoration of a motorcycle, and to use as evidence for my Duke of Edinburgh's Award skill section. I am a 16 year old student in the UK, with a great interest in Technology and old vehicles. I wanted to learn more about engines, and have had restoring this bike in mind for a few years, so D of E seemed like a good excuse to get on with it. The bike in question is a 1962 BSA SS80, which is a tuned up version of the C15, with more chrome and roller big-ends. It has a 4 stroke 250cc single cylinder engine,

To give some background, my Dad bought it when he was 17, and used for 2/3 years. Then, one day, it developed an electrical fault, and was put away in the garage. 31 years later, this afternoon (March 2012), we removed it from the shed to begin its journey of recovery.

My aim is to restore it to running order, documenting what I have achieved, what problems I have had and how I have overcome them, and what I have learnt. I also want to make more information available to the internet, as there is a distinct lack of it at the moment.
